Our Story

Our story starts in late September at the 2013 U of A Computer Engineering Club AGM. The exact date of this event is lost to time but for the sake of our story, let's say it was September 23rd 2013. Jacob had been peer pressured to attend by his friend Andrew and Brittany had been peer pressured to attend by her friend James. The purpose of the AGM was to elect students to different positions within the club, and there was one position in particular that both Brittany and Jacob had been convinced to run for. That position was Geer Week representitive.

What is Geer Week? It is a yearly engineering competition that pits all of the different engineering disciplines against one another in feats of strength, brains, drinking, and overall shenanigans. For example, here is Jacob living in the university for a week. For the next 2 years we worked together to run the computer engineering team for this event. Also, here is Jacob giving Brittany a cute thank you on his blog in 2014 We put everything we could into this joint endevour and in the second year we won together.

The end of geer week marked the begining of a new chapter in our relationship. One with awkward first dates and us slowly spending more time with each other than studying. Luckily we both managed to graduate despite all of our extra-curriculars, and even land jobs in our fields.

In 2017 we took the big step of moving in together. For the next 4 years we lived together in an apartment downtown. During those year we started hiking and backpacking together, travelled together, and did lots of cooking together.

In 2019 on a trip to Jacob's parents' cabin we sat out on the ridge together watching the sun set. To Brittany's surprise, Jacob got down on one, unsteady, knee and asked her to marry him. It's at this exact same spot (although a little less close to the edge) that we plan to have the wedding.

In 2021, amid a year of lockdowns and cancelled wedding dates, we bought a house together in Edmonton. Ever since we've been gradually improving it, landscaping it, and trying to learn how to be homeowners. Hopefully one day the home improvement tasks will slow but we're not convinced they ever will.

In November 2022 we finally added another member to the family. Since then Kizzy has been bringing love to our home, keeping us active, and making her strange screaming noises whenever she gets the chance. She'll be around at the wedding but we still aren't sure if she'll be calm enough to actually be part of the ceremony.
